Choosing The Right Cheap Moving Boxes

By Martin Larrent

Anybody really wants to be able to find cheap moving boxes, but they are not always available easily. Anyone has been to a retail store and asked if they have a spare boxes, and while those are free, they are also either smaller not high quality. It is best to get new moving boxes because they have not been used and have not been damaged by any heavy items. If you're going to try to find moving boxes that are affordable, you're going to have to do a little bit of research and look around a little bit before finally deciding on where you want to purchase you boxes. Moving is stressful enough as it is, there is no reason to make it more difficult than it needs to be.

Perhaps the most difficult part of find boxes before you move is finding ones that are not damaged and are affordable. You can find plenty of cheap boxes, but many of them have been damaged or simply made of cheap cardboard. You're going to need to pay attention to the boxes before you purchase them, else you could be regretting it later. For instance you do not want to put your nice china already other breakables in a box that could possibly break while you are moving. So while you are looking for your boxes, you need to pay close attention to a certain factor that every retailer selling boxes should tell you: the ECT rating.

You should get your boxes new. If you do so you need to pay attention to something called the ECT rating, otherwise known as the edge crush test. The edge crush test is a test done by the manufacturer to determine exactly how much weight is needed to cause the sides of a boxed glass. It is a good measure of how durable box will be when you use it. It is essential that you pay attention to the ECT rating while you are shopping for boxes. If you get boxes that have too low of a ECT rating, they will break it you put items that are too heavy inside of them. However if you get boxes have to high ECT rating for what you need, and you will spend more money than you need to on the boxes.

The standard ECT rating is 32. 32 ECT rating is common for most household items, but it is not strong enough for large appliances or other heavy items that you may need to pack. You may want to look for something higher than 32 if you happen to pack something microwave, or a computer. Look for lower ECT rating if you are trying to pack and move items that are very light, like clothing. Just make sure not to get dented by boxes with too high an ECT rating, because while they are more durable they are also more expensive.

Of course there are situations where you can find high-quality boxes for free from stores if you ask a manager or somebody working in the back room. However, you need to keep in mind that these have been used and could break while you are using them. If you want to ensure the boxes will not break when you're moving and you want to save some money, it would be best if you purchased your own cheap moving boxes so that you can use them now, and even use them later. - 30331

Boxes For Moving: Defining Your Choices

By Monica Alberts

At some point in life, most people move. Whether it is a simple move down the street or clear across the country, we depend on boxes to help get our things there safely. Boxes for moving seem simple and are easily taken for granted, but without them, the moving process would be almost too daunting to be worth the reward.

So, how does one go about picking just the right boxes? Which type of cardboard box is right for you is dependent upon the size and weight of the item you wish to entrust to its care.

Up until this point, you may not have even thought about what wide variety of boxes exist. In fact, there are many different types and sizes of moving containers available. The term cardboard is often avoided by those in the industry of containers, because the term itself does not really refer to any specific martial. That being said, the material that the general, lay-person refers to as cardboard is actually corrugated board.

The different types of corrugated board include single wall, or c flute, cardboard. By far, this is the most common type of moving container type used, comprising 90% of all cardboard manufactured. This single wall corrugated board can be rated to withstand anywhere from 175 to 350 pounds. Most people don't care to handle boxes that way over around 50 pounds, so for most purposes, these boxes are more than sufficient for our needs.

While in the moving process, you do come across an item that is over 200 pounds, you may be well advised to bump up to the next type of corrugated box, the double-wall, or c+f flute, type. In addition to the added security to your heavy items, these types of boxes also have inherently increased padding, which can more safely transport any delicate items, as well. This type of container would be excellent for kitchenware, such as glassware, dishes, and other heavy, though breakable, items.

The third type of boxes for moving is comprised of seven layers of paper and two boards, referred to as triple-wall corrugated board. Generally speaking, the average person will not require the use of these boxes, and very few manufacturers even offer them. Nonetheless, if you do have to move extra-heavy or bulk items, this is the type of box you would use. If you do happen to get some of these boxes, they are excellent for stacking heavy items, since they will not loose their shape easily.

Beyond the type of cardboard box required, the other factors to consider are move-ability and stack-ability. Be sure to be realistic about your own capabilities. Are you going to use a dolly to move these items? Are there are a lot of stairs you will need to go up or down? Will it be necessary to stack these boxes for any length of time? Small boxes may be easy to move around, but when stacked to any height often have a problem of leaning and falling.

Keeping all these factors in mind will help you be prepared for your next move. Boxes for moving are not all the same, and determining which ones are right for you and your items will not only keep your possessions safe, but will keep you safe while moving them, too. Remember a lot of small items in a large, convenient box nearby can quickly become an unmovable hazard. - 30331

Boxes For Moving: Which Are Right For You?

By Monica Alberts

At some point in life, most people move. Whether it is a simple move down the street or clear across the country, we depend on boxes to help get our things there safely. Boxes for moving seem simple and are easily taken for granted, but without them, the moving process would be almost too daunting to be worth the reward.

How many different types of boxes exist, and how do you determine which one is right for you?

Up until this point, you may not have even thought about what wide variety of boxes exist. In fact, there are many different types and sizes of moving containers available. The term cardboard is often avoided by those in the industry of containers, because the term itself does not really refer to any specific martial. That being said, the material that the general, lay-person refers to as cardboard is actually corrugated board.

Single-wall, or c flute, as it sometimes referred to, is the most common type of cardboard. Approximately 90% of moving containers manufactured are of this type, and this is usually what people are referring to when they use the term cardboard. This single wall board has been tested withstand weights between 175 through 350 pounds. Therefore, this is the appropriate box type for most moving purposes of the average person. However, it is important to note that even though the boxes are rated to support that much weight, the average person may not be able to safely handle even half of that weight.

In the case that the boxes required need to be able to withstand greater weight than the single-wall boxes afford, one can request double-wall corrugated boxes. These are tested to hold anywhere between 275 and 500 pounds. As an added bonus, these boxes are also extra padded, so not only can they house heavier items, but they can also protect the more fragile ones. These boxes are great for kitchenware, or if you end up needing to stack the boxes.

Triple-wall corrugated cardboard is the last of the three types, and are generally not necessary for the general move. They have a total of seven layers of paper, and are usually only used when moving heavy industrial items or bulk commodities.

Once you decide on the proper box types for your needs, there are still other factors to consider. Most importantly, what size of boxes you will need. Small items can quickly add up to large weights when combined, so if you will be moving these boxes by hand, keep that in mind. If you are going to use a dolly, pick boxes that you can stack safely on the dolly. If you are going to team-lift most items, sometimes it is easier to manage longer, more rectangular boxes.

Whether you plan on moving today or sometime in the future, you will most likely experience another move in your lifetime. So, becoming area of the different box types, and paying attention to the type of boxes you find most convenient to handle is good life planning. - 30331

What Exactly Is Auto Shipping

By Tom Kearns

Most everyone has a treasured vehicle to take care of so it will behave nicely on the road. We do everything we can to keep it looking good and running smoothly and reliably. There may come the necessity at some time to get our pampered pet to a faraway destination due to relocation or just plain moving away. You don't need to worry, though, that you will be without transportation once you get there. Here is why.

What Does Auto Shipping Entail?

To simplify, it is the art of getting a vehicle from where it is now to where it will be in the future, say a couple of days or more. This does sound easy and in actuality, it is. Auto shipping is a great convenience to anyone on the move. The auto shipping companies generally include carriers of all different dimensions to suit every vehicle's needs. They will ship your car domestically as well as internationally and even door to door if that's what you want. You can work with an online service provider or a local one, although a local company where you can actually walk in the door and meet with a representative is rare. Most of these companies are scattered hither and yon, so online is probably where you will be. In any case, you and the company's agent can work out all your travel preparations and needs. Most offer a variety of services including great customer service and are flexible with modes of transportations and schedules.

Types of auto shipping

If you have purchased a new mode of transportation, being a car, boat, or a motorcycle or need your present vehicle to be shipped anywhere you need to be, it is important to know what types of shipping methods there are. There are two specific types of vehicle shipping:

1) Open vehicle shipping- this is typically a great option for most consumers; for it is cheap and provides the least expensive method in shipping your vehicle. However, open is exactly what it is. Remember driving on the highway and seeing the huge trucks with trailers connected to it, carrying a variety of vehicles. Well if you choose to go this way that will one day be your car, bike or boat. Though economical the downsides include any destruction from road debris, or elements flying around or from the other cars. Security is also a potential hazard for open traveling vehicles. Equipment such as navigation systems, stereos, and other expensive electronics have a much higher chance of being stolen than if closed away in a private traveling quarter.

2. An enclosed carrier is just that. Your precious vehicle is safely tucked in for the journey with no fear of debris, weather, theft, or harm from other vehicles traveling with it. Your car will inevitably receive better care and more attention while being loaded and unloaded from the carrier. Sounds like heaven but there are disadvantages to this shipping method. Firstly, it is from 25% to 100% more costly, and secondly, not every shipping company has these closed vehicles in their fleets. Finding the few that do can be a real challenge.

You have now received a basic education in auto shipping. You are able to do your research armed with your new found wisdom and find that perfect company and carrier for your needs. Good job! - 30331

Preparing Your Vehicle For Shipping

By Tom Kearns

Shipping your vehicle, for a first time auto shipper, can be a bit of a chore. There are however some steps that you can take to make your auto sipping experience run much smoother. Shipping a car or truck can be fast and easy if you follow these simple steps:

Start with a very clean car. You, along with the shipping company, are going to make a careful inspection of the vehicle together so you can note any damage that exists pre-shipment. Knowing the car's exact condition at pick up makes the final inspection not only easier, but more accurate.

If your car is not in running condition, you must notify the shipper of this. Better though is to get it in running condition with battery charged and a small amount of gas in the tank. The shipper may need to drive it from one place another, although this is unlikely. Car hauling companies will probably have other means of transporting a vehicle a short distance.

Remove all exterior attachments. This includes bike racks, spare tire covers, and even your car antenna if it does not retract. Anything that can easily be knocked off, or that can damage another car on the carrier should be removed. You should also remove any personal belongings that may be inside the vehicle. This includes global positioning systems, removable radios, and anything else that can be reasonably removed. The shipping company's insurance will not want to be responsible for anything other than your vehicle and chances are that they won't be.

Do not ship a vehicle that leaks any fluid whatsoever. Fix those leaks before you ship. Leaky fluids can cause harm to other vehicles stacked on the carrier, to the carrier itself, and not of the least concern, to the environment. Show the same respect to others as you would want them to show to you.

Have your keys ready. If there is a separate key for the trunk or anything else on your vehicle make sure to turn over a complete set of keys when you drop off your car or truck or when it is picked up from you. It is also important that you make sure that you disarm or, even better, disconnect your alarm system.

Following these few simple, common sense tips before shipping your vehicle will definitely help you to be less apprehensive about the task that lies ahead. Now, wasn't that easy? - 30331

Moving Help: The Checklist

By Dan Williams

The literal concept of moving might send prickles down our spinal column and may make us breakout into a cold sweat. Experts say that any sort of change produces stress in our lives. Moving, (and particularly if we are relocating to a new city or state), is a magnanimous change and naturally adds a great amount of stress along with it. This can be a double curse, because tension can lead to a lack of energy and motivation. Many of us have a tendency to procrastinate during stressful periods of our lives.

When bracing oneself for a move we want to put the pedal to the metal and get a bunch of things finished. This checklist comprises several suggestions that could appear like no-brainers. All the same, the real act of printing out these easy suggestions and reminders can become an important security blanket as the frightening time nears. Moving and relocating demands being proactive, seizing the bull by the horns and really completing certain jobs well ahead of their deadlines. Hopefully this little article will assist you in accomplishing that. In this particular article we are leaving off the big matters such as finding the best moving company, exploring your new neighborhood's transportation, parking, employment, etc. Those are for other articles on a different day. Today we are focusing on the basics of preparation and planning.

Throw away what you do not need.

Lots of us are packrats. One affair that we can execute at once is working through all of our material possessions and eliminating what we do not need anymore. Moving unwanted clothing and knickknacks from one place of residency to another is a magnanimous waste of time and effort. It is astonishing how much more in control we feel when we commence narrowing our inventory to what we actually need to keep. Eliminating the unwanted items can be addressed by having a garage sale long before it is time to move and then giving what is left over to the Salvation Army or other charitable organizations.

Secure all your important papers.

Since moving is hectic, to say the least, we need to be aware of the exact location of all of our important items. Things that we absolutely must not lose or misplace should certainly be hand carried, not put in a box for the movers: Address Books, Birth Certificates, Bank Statements, Checks, Credit Cards and Statements, Home Movies, Irreplaceable Memorabilia, Insurance Policies, Marriage Records, Medical and Dental Records, Military Records, Passports, Photos and Photo Albums, Resumes, School Records, Stock Certificates, Tax Returns, Telephone Numbers, Valuables, Vehicle Documents, Wills.

Prepare for your new location in advance.

On that point there are a number of things that we can take care of at our new location well ahead of our move that will help smooth out the bangs and pokes of our relocation process when the actual event takes place. Open new bank accounts. Open a new deposit box. Call the new area utility companies and arrange your new services to be turned on at a certain date. This can include cable, gas, electric, oil, phone, water and Internet access. Arrange for new medical providers. If you are moving to a new state, contact the DMV and get forms essential to re-register your vehicles. Contact your insurance companies and check if your automobile insurance, homeowner's insurance, and so on. can be changed. If not, find an insurance agent in your new area and talk about your needs and necessities for new policies. Go to the United States Post Office and get a moving kit. Fill out change of address forms for all of your correspondents; credit card companies, other credit accounts, banks, insurance companies, current utility companies for final statements, magazines and other subscriptions, family, friends, and any other persons or businesses that you correspond with regularly.

With proper planning and preparation the moving process, though never fun, can at least be sane. With proper planning and preparation the utilities at your present address can be disconnected the day after you move and the utilities at your new address can be connected the day prior to your arrival. With proper planning and preparation you will not be frantically searching for a new doctor or pharmacy, if that unfortunate need arises. With proper planning and preparation you will have all of your important documents at the tip of your fingers at all times. With proper planning and preparation your mail will start arriving the day after you move in to your new abode and your life will endure a minimum of chaos and clutter. - 30331

Understanding Auto Shipping Brokers

By Tom Kearns

A vehicle is not just a vehicle, and our money does not grow on trees. Vehicle transportation can put you into a hectic situation if you are trying to do it by yourself. The best of this world is we can have someone do it all for us; no need to 'Stop being lazy'! An auto shipping broker can do what we do not want to do; take care of it all, while we just rest on our laurels and pick which state of affairs that is best for our monetary and situational circumstances.

We are talking about going to an auto shipping broker, of course, someone who will take care of all our car needs. Let us further examine what exactly an Auto Shipping Broker is. A broker deals with a vast number of carriers based on your budget and convenience. They are the middleman. Instead of dealing with the auto shipping companies yourself, the broker will find you most likely the best price when you contract through them. Your vehicle is not shipped by the broker. Instead they have the absolute leverage in finding the right shipping service for you to send your vehicle in the accurate direction with an open spot using a vast network of carriers. When you consider the slim openings that are available to the single customer, this can be incredibly useful. Your vehicle is usually transported on a specific route with a definite schedule when you use an auto shipping service. While working with the broker more options are available for you.

Brokers do not insure your vehicle, but can help you find the right company that will. Also the right party to pick up and deliver your car exactly as you want will be found by the broker. While a large amount of trucks are owned by many carrier services, the broker is not tied down to a specific fleet company. A more expensive turnaround can be expected if the trucks used to transport your car are very far away, but when working with a broker they can quickly track down the trucks or shipping services in your immediate area. You can also expect sooner pick up and drop off times working with a broker instead of a carrier company.

One of the best things when working with a broker is never being rushed or fixed. What I mean by this is most of the time, when we work with carriers; once you talk and get a quote from them they immediately want you to book right then and there while that spot is still open. When working with a broker nothing is forced, and you are given a plentitude of options based on your requirements. Another great benefit is direct service communication. Brokers are able to speak directly to the drivers or carriers to inform them of everything, while often carriers companies do not have that access. They simply ship and it is off.

The choice is always yours. If you want auto shipping, and life, to be a bit easier and hassle free, going with an auto shipping broker may be the right choice. - 30331

Leave The Work To Louisville Movers

By Ed Longley

Moving involves many decisions. One of those decisions that must be made is whether to move yourself or hire the pros to help with your move. What you decide will affect both the cost and time of your move. If you need professional moving help, Louisville movers are there for you.

Of course, every person who is moving will have different priorities. If your only concern is the bottom line dollar, then moving yourself may be the best choice. If you lack the time or strength to make the move your self, then hiring the team of professional movers may work best for you.

If the move is just one or two people from a small home or apartment around the block or even across the state, then you may decide to move yourself. Often, you can find a few friends that will help with the move for the price of a pizza. This option is usually very flexible and may not cost as much. One reminder for you is that you are responsible for both loading and unloading all of the furniture and the appliances. If you have very little to move, a trailer may be all that you have to rent.

If you have a long move ahead of you and cannot or would prefer not to drive a moving truck for the long distance, then you may want to consider one of the services that will allow you to pack the truck but does the driving for you. This can save driving an unfamiliar truck in heavy traffic, but allows you to do your own packing.

On the other hand, hiring the professionals can save time, stress and effort. If you are looking a cross-country move of a three-bedroom home, the professionals may be the best way to go.

If you have to take off work to get ready for a move, it can take a large chunk out of your pay. Remember to add this cost in when figuring the cost of moving. Professional movers can take care of most of the move. They will pack, load and drive the truck. When they arrive at your new home, they will unload the truck. This allows you to focus on the emotional needs of your family as they make the adjustment to a new home.

Movers are also experienced in packing. The will make sure that all the belongings are packed so that nothing gets damaged. If there is an accident, movers are insured so that you will be reimbursed for the damaged article. When moving yourself and damage occurs, there is no insurance that will reimburse you for the loss. - 30331

The challenging task of moving can be managed comfortably by planning well in advance. For a successful move the preparation starts before 2 months. Detailing out each and every phase of the moving event beforehand helps you a lot and makes things easier.

When you use professional movers it is like a dream come true. They come to your house, pack your things and move them into your new house for you. That is so much nicer. However, a good move requires you to be prepared.

Before the moving day arrives there are several things that need to be accomplished. You will need packing paper, box markers and boxes if you are packing yourself. To make things convenient for yourself, you can have a box designated with necessities including towels, toilet tissue, a few dishes and glasses or anything you deem essential. This way you can get to these items quicker. For long trips you should book hotel rooms and plan a moving route.

When hiring movers they will give you an expected time of arrival so you know when the move will begin. This will help you if your time management skills are less than to be desired. The movers know how long it will take them to move your items since they calculate this out when listing your items to move.

Professional movers are experienced and know how to move your property. They have dealt with almost all types of items so they are not fazed by the task of moving grand pianos, heavy oak furniture or a fragile glass chandelier. Nothing worries them.

The movers will have been trained to know how to move things so they will ensure that all the necessary measures are taken to protect your items and get them from the old house to the new home in the same condition. - 30331

Use the Right Moving Supplies to Minimize Your Stress

By Monica Alberts

For anyone who has ever moved, there are probably a few horror stories you can recant about your experience. It never fails... The best plans can go haywire for reasons way beyond your control. Moving is as stressful as losing a job or your spouse. The only way you can try to alleviate much of the stress is with plenty of proactive planning. Buying moving supplies, without waiting till the last minute, can be a big help!

Having a good understanding of exactly what type of supplies you need can be a lifesaver. Finding out you have no more boxes and no more tape just as your buddies pull up with the truck can really put a cramp in your plans! Get some professional advice - and this is as close as your nearest moving and storage facility. Buying supplies is an important part of your move; don't be running around to your local discount stores loading up on the wrong things, or items that won't last through the project. Have one of the pros as the storage facility go over all the details with you and buy what they suggest. This is not the time to skimp.

Although many of us have resorted to hounding local grocery and liquor stores for boxes, starting months before the planned moving date, this can be time consuming. Keep in mind that these boxes are used - they have been weakened, and chances are they are missing tops. Also, you most likely will be collecting just about every box you can get your hands on, in sizes that aren't going to be much help. Hint: Buy your boxes new. An added benefit is that they come flat. This saves you a bunch of room if you're going to have to find a place to put them as you start packing.

Next, you need plenty of sturdy packing tape. Forget duct tape and household tape. You need to tape the bottom of the boxes, too... You don't want to pick up a box only to have the contents fall out! Get a tape dispenser with a built in cutting edge. Forget trying to carry around a pair of scissors.

Now think about items that don't go into boxes. What about mattresses? Large pieces of artwork? These need covers and protection, too. Trucks are notorious for being dusty and dirty. You don't want to make it all the way your new home without a mishap only to find out your mattress and box spring are covered with grease.

Professional moving companies always have a large supply of moving pads on hand. If a professional mover isn't in the budget, get your own moving pads. These are a must! Place some on the floor to act as buffers for delicate items and fragile furniture. They come in different sizes and different materials to accommodate different needs. They can be rented or purchased.

You'll also want to get furniture covers. These come in material and plastic designs, again, of various sizes and thicknesses. You don't want to put your sofas and chairs into a truck without protection.

One final tip: get waterproof covers! You never know what a pesky rain storm will kick up. You don't want your sofa sitting in your driveway getting soaking wet! - 30331

Factors that May Effect the Cost of Shipping A Vehicle

By Tom Kearns

Some of the cost of shipping your auto has to do with how many slots on the truck are required to ship it. Carriers charge per slot, the more, the pricier. An enclosed truck costs more to purchase than an open one. Your shipping charges will therefore go up if you require an enclosed one. Also, the enclosed vehicle cannot carry as many vehicles per trip, upping the cost to you.

Because there are laws covering the overall weight a carrier is allowed at any one time, an usually heavy vehicle may have additional fees imposed upon it because a law-abiding trucking company will be forced to carry fewer vehicles to make up for the weight difference. Some vehicles are just plain heavy and nothing can be done about it. But a normal-sized automobile may be made less heavy (and less expensive to ship) by removing any and all personal objects and removable upgrades that may be attached to it.

Even the specific date on which your car is to be shipped may influence the price, since oil prices, competition, and predicted weather conditions vary from day to day. Often when asking for quotes, customers do not realize that if they specify a different date, the same company could charge less than it first offered for the same service.

For the most part, companies operate trucks which accommodate more than one car, serving more than one customer at a time. For this reason, and because customers book the services at different times, with individual specifications, it may either not be possible for a specific available truck to deliver your car as and when you require it, unless perhaps you change their priorities by paying more. In any case, requiring delivery on a specific date, rather within a more or less flexible time-frame, costs more.

If you are dealing with a large company, it may offer the opportunity of shipping your one vehicle on just one truck without considering other customer's needs and schedules. This, of course, will cost much more but you have the luxury of a safer, quicker delivery and on the date of your choice. If you are not pressed for time and do not require special treatment, you will save money.

Overseas shipping is apt to cost more because of taxes and the different relationships of foreign countries. It may also require more than one form of transportation to get your vehicle from A to B. If it requires transport by air, rail, road, water or a combination of any of these, it will cost you more and require increased insurance and other fees.

If all of this preparation to arrange for shipping rather than drive it yourself (if that's even a possibility) in order to cost you less scares you, it may be that you are unfamiliar with today's auto shipping industry. The industry is not just a growth industry, it is a huge global business. The amount of services offered to the customer may seem to you overly detailed but it ensures that you can make comparisons among the companies and select the one most suitable to your needs.

Competition among these burgeoning enterprises may drive them to be more flexible with their pricing, though this is less true of foreign companies than domestic. Most companies will offer free quotes so don't limit yourself to just the gargantuans of the industry. The quotes for similar services among the contenders may vary also by the specific states or borders required. Try the young, energetic companies and don't be afraid to negotiate for your best price. - 30331

Dependable Car Transport

By Tom Kearns

If you need to ship any vehicle a long distance whether it be a sports car, vintage, SUV or golf cart, generally the most economical and smartest way to do that is to hire a service that specializes in this type of service. This service may be by carrier truck or shipment by sea or air. They will save you money, effort, time and wear and tear on the car and your psyche.

When you think of "auto shipping" what comes to mind is a company with some type of transport vehicle to take your car to the destination you specify, in the same condition as when you left it in their care. Most folks take the company's reliability for granted and expect their car to be waiting for them at the end of the journey. Company names can be deceiving. "Reliable Auto Shipping Experts, Inc." doesn't mean a thing. You need to research the historical record of the company to which you entrust your car.

You should know that most auto shipping companies, while spread out in thousands of locations all across the larger countries, are really rather small operations that own a few trucks.

If you offer the company you choose to ship your auto a flexible schedule, the price will be more reasonable than if you dictated a specific time frame. Given the more flexible terms, most companies will perform well, no matter your car's final destination.

The deal is generally set up with either a broker or a single carrier itself. You will find that some enterprising shipping company's now act as their own brokers. This being true, make sure that you know that you are dealing with the carrier that also brokers for himself and not a carrier that brokers it out to some unknown company..

The company with whom you sign a contract must have a valid MC license and you must find out about its insurance carrier. Ask for a copy of the Insurance Certificate, then contact that company and find out what they really cover, and maybe more importantly, what they do not cover. The reliable company will not bat an eye at such a request and may in fact welcome the customer who is willing to do his homework. You don't want to give away your precious car to some organization whose insurance policy will lapse as soon as they put it on the carrier.

Looking companies up is always a good idea. Better not to be involved with companies which are not listed anywhere or unwillingly offer basic info about themselves. Check the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to verify they are indeed a carrier and not a covert broker-carrier.

Doing the same via a professional broker may be even a better idea: it is the broker's job to dig up any vital background information on even the most reticent carriers; and once you have that information your suspicions will be either justified or officially disproved, so that you may proceed more safely. - 30331

Moving Tips And Advice

By Jerry Dyess

Moving is among one of the most stressful events in your life. However, the good news is that some of that stress can be avoided. With some advanced planning you can ensure that your moving process is as smooth as possible.

Five to Eight Weeks Before The Move - When moving day is about two months away, it is time for serious planning. Get written estimates from various moving companies. Check with several to make sure you get the best deal. Look into any tax deductions that might apply to your move and learn what paperwork you need to keep track of for tax purposes. Request your health records from all doctors and vets that your family has used and prepare them for your new health care providers. Make sure you have any official paperwork you may need to secure locally like vaccination records from the health department or birth certificates.

Do not forget to talk to your insurance agent to see if you will need to make any adjustments to your policies. Begin to compile a list of valuable items that you may want to ship separately. You will also want to be looking for boxes and other packing supplies so that you can be as ready for the move as possible. If you have items that you do not use often then you might want to start packing them to save yourself time and trouble later.

2-4 Weeks Before You Move - This is when you need to really start to get serious about preparing for your move. Be sure that you speak with the post office about changing your address as well as getting in touch with your current utility companies to ensure that they have the correct turn off date. Spend time deciding what you you are going to do with your live plants and perishable foods.

Additionally, get rid of any flammables or poisons that cannot be moved. You should also begin to investigate what it is going to take to transfer your car registration to you new state. Be sure that you spend some time at you bank either closing or transferring your essential accounts. Do not forget to start cleaning out your fridge of all the food that you have on hand!

The Week of the Move - Confirm your movers arrival time and date as well as any stipulations that you need to fulfill for them to be able to move your belongings (i.e. packing requirements, deposits, etc.). Additionally, be sure that you have a copy of your good faith estimate hand should you need it for your move.

Don't forget to let all of your friends and family members know where you are moving. That's easy today thanks to email, but don't overlook those without email access. Be sure to drain and defrost your refrigerator and drain water from all other applicable appliances.

Moving In - Moving out of your old home is half of the battle. Moving into your new one can be stressful as well. There are many things you need to do, but stick with the essentials at first so you don't become overwhelmed. Check to make sure the utilities are turned on and functioning properly and give the house a quick going over before bring all of your belongings inside.

Make sure your appliances are in proper working order. You especially want to make sure your refrigerator is working before you go out and buy food. Be present when the movers arrive at your new house so you can instruct them on furniture placement and check your belongings for damage. - 30331

What is a Real Estate Short Sale?

By Adriana Noton

Short sales in real estate have become more common in the past few years as a result of the collapsing value of houses. It is an option for a homeowner facing foreclosure. In a short sale, the lender or mortgage holder will agree to accept less than the full amount due on the mortgage if the homeowner is able to sell the property at fair market value.

There are criteria that must be met for a short sale. The first is that the value of the home has dropped. A real estate agent can verify this through an analysis of comparable homes in the neighbourhood and their recent sales amounts. The mortgage must also be in default. Some lenders will consider a short sale if it appears that the property may go into default. This move could avoid the lengthy process of foreclosure. The homeowner must demonstrate that he/she has become insolvent; the prospect of continuing to pay the mortgage is unlikely, and there are no assets to cover the shortfall between the fair market price and the amount owing on the loan.

Although a short sale may seem to be a solution to many homeowners' problems, a short sale is also a complex transaction. The first hurdle is to find a buyer for the home. If no offers are made, there is no short sale. The lender must approve the buyer, if one does make an offer. A real estate agent must be willing to handle the transaction for a reduced commission. The Internal Revenue Service may assess taxes on the difference between the amount owed and the amount received through a sale. This could be considered debt forgiveness, and is taxable in some circumstances. A short sale will also appear on the homeowner's credit report, with adverse effects.

One of the advantages to the homeowner of a short sale is that he/she will find it easier to obtain financing on a future home; someone who has gone through foreclosure will find it more difficult to obtain financing for a number of years. A foreclosure stays on one's credit report for ten years.

There are advantages for a mortgage holder to agree to a short sale. The process of foreclosure can be lengthy; a homeowner may remain in the home for a period up to a year without making any payments while the paperwork is completed. In a foreclosure, the bank then carries the property on its books, and must either sell it at auction hoping to recoup some of the outstanding loan, or find a private buyer for the property. Most banks are not in the business of actually buying and selling property. There are also liability issues on bank-owned homes and maintaining the properties in a safe and secure manner is costly.

When entering into financial agreements with long-lasting consequences, it is a good idea to get advice from a real estate lawyer and a tax accountant. The decision to short sell should be weighed against all other options. One of the benefits to the homeowner will be the knowledge that he/she did everything possible to make a clean break in an untenable situation, and can walk away with some dignity and relief at leaving a bad situation. - 30331

Creative Ways to Use Boxes After Moving

By Adriana Noton

So, you've reached your new home, you've unpacked and now you're stuck with dozens of moving boxes. Boxes, even when flattened, can take up a lot of space. Unless you're planning to move within the next few months again, it's not worth it to keep them around. So just what can you do to use those boxes once you've finished moving?

There are a number of things you can do with those boxes, but whatever you do, don't throw them out! Here are a few ideas to get you started.

Sell them. How did you get hold of these moving boxes? Chances are, you either bought them from a moving company or else spent a lot of time scavenging suitable ones. It's hard and expensive to find good, sturdy moving boxes, so it stands to reason that others will be looking for the same thing you did just a few weeks ago. They're often willing to purchase boxes that have been used once, at a lower price. You get rid of the boxes and earn a bit of cash and the new buyers gain all the boxes they need for their move at a savings in time and money.

Turn them into storage. While you can certainly leave some things packed in the basement, attic or garage, there are other methods of storage. For example, you can cover the boxes with nice contact paper and stack them to form cheap, sturdy shelves in a child's room. If you do stack them, offsetting is best for stable shelves and you should use something to hold them together. You can either remove the flaps, or screw in door handles to the two that close horizontally and use a hook to hold them shut.

Make a tunnel. This works particularly well for a child's birthday party, but has also been used as a fundraiser. Take all the boxes that you have and open the flaps on both ends, taping them to elongate the box. Now start taping them together to form a long tube. You can actually create a maze this way. To form intersections, you'll need to cut some boxes open and use them to cover the open areas where two or more tunnels meet. This works very well when it's dark, since people can actually become semi-lost inside the box tunnel. The tunnel should hold up for some time, particularly if you've used sturdy tape, like duct tape.

Insulate a garage or attic. Cardboard works well to help insulate, which is actually why many street people use it as bedding. However, you don't need to be poor in order to make very good use of those insulating powers. Use the flattened boxes to cover the roof or walls in a drafty garage and keep things warmer, or use it to lower the temperature a bit in your attic.

Whether you decide to use your moving boxes in your home or sell them and make some extra cash, don't just throw them out. They're still incredibly useful. - 30331

Get A Homes For Rent In Fresno Ca With No Problems

By Daniel Huckabee

Locating homes for rent in Fresno CA can be extremely difficult if you are in another state, or a city down the road. Finding the property to rent in the first place can be difficult, but there are resources you can use to make the process easier.

The easiest way to find a house for rent is to do a search online for them. There are many places that you can look at, and many businesses that focus on just rental homes. You can see virtual tours of the home and get a general idea of the places they have for rent. Often, you will have ways to contact the agent that listed it, an be able to get any questions you have answered as well as being shown other properties that you may have missed that will fit what you want.

While the online searches are quick and will find you a home, sometimes the pricing can be off. They may not show any adjustments made for adding luxury items, or lower them to reflect specials on the rent or deposits. Sometimes, they may not even list all the properties for rent on there.

If you want to have more properties to choose from, a subscription to the local newspaper can supply you with more homes for rent. You may also want to have the payment made where if you send more then just postage, you have recourse to getting your money back if they do not live up to their end.

Real estate agents can also help you find a home. Many of these do not list all the rental properties they have available, and you will need to ask for these. If you are not sure which real estate agent to ask, then contacting a house hunting service can help with this process. The Chamber of commerce can also supply you with local agents that do deal with rentals.

However you find your home to rent, you will want to try and see the actual property in person if you can do so, or have a trusted friend or relative go for you. It is rare, but owners do embellish the property...apos;s features and amenities, and sometimes the pictures can be doctored up.

It is also a good idea to check into the local schools if you have children and see how they rank in California. You may also want to contact the police non-emergency number to find out how the crime is in that particular area before renting.

Local Businesses Save Money Thanks to Self Storage Facilities

By Kurt Novak

Small businesses can definitely benefit because of self storage facilities. But saving money is not the only benefit. It is also rather convenient as well. It saves space because you can store all or most of your inventory, etc, at the storage facility which means more available space at your home or office. Overall self storage facilities provide a generally cost effective way to store your belongings.

Reasons for why businesses choose storage

The main reason why a small business would choose storage is because of the saving involved. Although you might consider renting office space it is important to remember that for every square foot of office space you can expect to pay twice what you would for storage. That is a very good incentive. Therefore it makes financial sense to rather rent a small office and storage as well.

Office based businesses aren't the only ones that benefit from storage space rental. Renting storage space can be an attractive option for any type of small operation with a need to store supplies or equipment offsite, or who want to have a secure location separate from the main work area.

Storage is ideal for which types of businesses?

If you own a small home-based business that involves sales then chances are that you need to have stock available. Instead of turning your home or office, depending which one you operate from, into a warehouse, you could choose to hire a storage facility instead. Even if you are a bookkeeper or freelance paralegal, storage can still benefit you as somewhere to keep your important documentation.

Storage facilities can be particularly beneficial to people such as landscapers. On the one hand they have peace of mind knowing that the supplies are all safe and secure, and on the other they can also hold meetings at the facility that even offers parking.

Where to Find Storage

Naturally, the storage facility you should look for should be in a convenient location. A great place to start looking is on the Internet. Chances are good that you will find storage facilities in or close to your area. Big business also sometimes provide info regarding storage on their websites. Besides determining where one is in relation to you, you will also be able to see if any of the facilities are offering special deals that you can take advantage of.

Making sure that you secure the best deal

Because there are so many self storage facilities they are always in competition with each other in order to gain customers, namely you. When you meet with a representative from one you should ask them about any specials or promos that might be on offer. Chances are they will not volunteer this info so do not forget to inquire. Also, if you are aware of a facility offering a better deal use that to negotiate with other facilities. Negotiating will be necessary anyway to be prepared.

Many storage companies reward their clients if they refer more business to them, so do not neglect to inquire if the companies you are meeting with do so, too. Also, remember that the Internet is a wonderful resource so use it. More storage companies are targeting online shoppers than ever before and you could find a very good deal this way.

If you own a small or home-based business then self storage units are not only a cost effective solution for your storage needs, but a smart one as well. All you need to do is a bit of research to find the best and least expensive storage unit to suit your requirements. - 30331

Green Moves From North America Transfer

By William Hewitt

Planning is the most vital action of every move. Packing materials and labor through loading, safe driving and unpacking will be provided by North America Transfer. North America Transfer will take care of all your needs. North America Transfer handles the details from the beginning of the move to the end.

There are a few items calculated in the cost of your move, such as the size of the move and the distance based on point of origin and destination. North America Transfer offers services like packing and unpacking, storage and the transport of your vehicles.

The "Green Move" is incorporated into all moves when you use North America Transfer. All materials are donated by them and they also donate to Make A Wish Foundation.

Everyone who participates in a "Green Move" knows the there are a few extra activities you must do when you have to move everything you own. It isn't the best of times to consider it all being that you're busy with packing and organizing, deciding what stays and goes. It would be a lot easier to just throw things away and not recycle but that wouldn't be a "Green Move". Donating also is more labor intensive but when it comes to green moving it's the way to go instead of adding to our landfills.

Another option is to keep fewer things around (not a bad idea sometimes) however by the time you're preparing to move it's too late for that. So, what are some strategies you can use when deciding to move green? Without throwing everything in the garbage.

Give yourself enough time, hoard your own bubble wrap, cardboard boxes, padded envelopes and other materials instead of buying up virgin materials, and plan out removing stuff that has to go (or hire someone who's a pro such as North America Transfer) so you make as few trips as possible.

No more dumpster diving, borrowing dusty old boxes, scrounging at work or driving around town hunting for banana boxes to pack and move your belongings. No more messing with that fussy tape, crushing your property in transit and breaking down all those new and used cardboard boxes when you are moving you residence, office or small business . They can provide everything you need for your move. Keep in mind, they will pack and unpack your belongings. All you need to do is make arrangements for that service. - 30331
